Free picks come from the Project Gutenberg Open Audiobook Collection (Project Gutenberg + Microsoft + MIT): public-domain classics read by Microsoft AI neural voices, free on Internet Archive. It's the strongest free AI narration we've found — and a zero-risk way to judge AI narration with your own ears.

Paid picks are Audible titles narrated with ElevenLabs or Amazon's Virtual Voice — the two engines behind most paid AI narration. We show the engine on every listing because quality varies by engine and by book; an AI credit should never be a surprise.
